Viva Palestina will head to Gaza – Sun, 06 Dec 2009 19:39:30 GMT

An international aid convoy is scheduled to take humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip from London, marking the first year anniversary of Israel’s three week war against Gazans.

The Viva Palestina convoy of 250 vehicles will deliver medical, humanitarian and educational aid to Palestinians who are suffering a long-running Israeli blockade on their territory since Hamas took control of the region in June 2007.

The convoys will depart from London on Sunday to pass through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece and Turkey.

They are scheduled to enter Gaza on Dec. 27 after heading through Syria, Jordan and north along the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt.

The trip marks the first-year anniversary of Israel’s three week invasion of the Gaza Strip during which at least 1,350 Palestinians were killed.

Vive Palestina has been founded by British lawmaker George Galloway who has already delivered two convoys of aid to the Gaza Strip this year.

Gaza Through Our Eyes By Zahir Mahmood

Video Info taken from youtube link

Shaykh Zahir details the epic Viva Palestina journey from Britain to Gaza. He describes the highs, lows, ebbs and flows of the journey, the immense love and emotion displayed by the general public and the obstacles created by some of the worlds most notorious police states. The lecture ends with an emotional description of the suffering of the Gazans, witnessed first hand by the members of the convoy.

After seeing the constant bombardment of Gaza on our screens, a group of brave volunteers rose to travel to Gaza to provide much needed aid. They set out in mid-February and returned almost a month later. The convoy called Viva Palestina went out with over £1 million in aid in what is the biggest aid convoy ever to travel to Gaza.

However, the media decided to ignore this event which is not surprising, considering the medias obsession with celebrity culture. A celebrity dying of cancer received more press than hundreds of children dying and suffering from the aftermath of a massacre. In view of this, we think it is important that those who donated and helped the convoy in its noble mission, understand what these brave volunteers saw. How did they get there? What did they experience? What difficulties did they face? What was Gaza like? Who was the aid given to and Why?

All praises be to ALLAH (SWT), Gaza through our Eyes is an attempt to share the story of those who travelled to Gaza and distributed the aid amongst the suffering. A people who despite living in impoverished conditions akin to an open-air prison and cut off from the rest of the world, continue to display resilience and defiance against oppression and brutality.

From two people who took part in the convoy, Shaykh Zahir from our very own As Suffa Institute and one of the many scholars who embarked on the journey, will provide us with a unique insight into what he saw, felt and experienced. George Galloway MP, the mastermind of the Viva Palestina convoy will also grace the occasion to share his experience of travelling to and meeting the people of Gaza.

Insha’Allah (SWT) 10th of May will prove to be a pivotal night in enabling us to learn about what they saw and how we need to keep the effort up.

The chant still reverberates through the minds of those who embarked on the journey to Gaza, the same chant which was heard throughout the bombardment:

With soul
With blood
We give everything for Gaza

We pray that this event reinvigorates the remembrance of Gaza firm in our hearts and first in our minds.

Oh Gaza! We will not forget how you bleed and hurt whilst the world watches on.

Children of Gaza

This is an old video, but the complaint of that young child is not. The children of Gaza are the ones who suffer the most, the deep scars that they have will never be erased. May Allah remove them from this situation. Ameen.

Caged like a bird…(whereas a bird is able to spread its wings and fly in the open space, the people of Gaza cannot as they live in the worlds largest open air prison!)
