Homs bombarded amid new wave of bloodshed in Syria

Bashar Al-Assad’s Syrian   army appeared to continue its barrage of mortars and artillery on the   ravaged city of Homs where at least 260   people have been killed in recent daysaccording to opposition   activists.

The Syrian government has denied bombing Homs, largely seen as a protest hub   awash with Syrian Army defectors and Free Syrian Army fighters.

The footage posted on a social media website on Sunday also shows what is   claimed to be the remains of a Syrian army tank burnt out after it was   attacked by the rebel fighters in the southeastern city of Zabadani.

In the town of Idlib hundreds of people are shown dancing in the streets   chanting “Bashar Al-Assad should leave,” with the weekend marking   the bloodiest days of the 11-month uprising against the Syrian president.

On Sunday, Foreign Secretary William Hague accused   Russia and China of “tipping Syria closer to civil war”after their double veto of a United Nations Security Council resolution on   Syria.
